SMART Tips 'n' Tricks
Take a look at this page from time to time for ideas which will make your use of SMART easier, faster, and more enjoyable.
System-wide
- If you don't like the flat buttons in your SMART windows you can change them to raised buttons. Ask your Administrator or SMART support to change the Operator Configuration setting \System \Flat Buttons
Accounts
- For all sorts of customer invoice checking, and job queries, use the Prepare Items for Invoicing window. Press the F2 button in this window for powerful searching and filtering capabilities. You can now create and view invoices from this window too. \Accounts \Customers \Prepare Invoice Items.
- To reconcile (check) contractor invoices, go the Contractor Invoice section \Accounts \Contractors \Contractor Invoices. There are many powerful features to speed up processing and ensure that contractors are not overpaid.
Job Dispatch
- Searching for a location (site) in the list of locations
- Do a wildcard search by using the % symbol. For example, putting %Smith in the SiteName field will list all locations that have the name Smith anywhere in the site name. (Searches are not case sensitive.)
- Speed up the search by choosing the right display order. The tabs just above the list determine which order the list is displayed in. If you set this to the same field you are using to search, the search will be faster. (e.g. if you are searching for the site name of %Smith, choose the Site Name tab).
- Use a locator search - click in the list, then start typing the name you are looking for. Depending on which tab you have selected (by Code, by Site Name, etc) the list will move nearer to your selection as you type in each character. To clear that search and start a new one, press the up arrow key or back space key.
System Errors
- Changed by another station. This message usually indicates that while you were making changes another user has made (and saved) changes to the same record. However it can also occur when data has been imported from another system, or when data was imported when your SMART system was first installed. The most likely reason is date/time rounding - SMART stores times to a slightly lower precision than is possible, and if another system supplies a time which uses the maximum precision it will trigger this error in SMART. Contact SMART support staff for assistance in locating and rectifying the source of your problem.
