Dialling from Smart
(this section is incomplete)
For dialling to operate, a dialling device must be configured in the Workstation Configuration window. This can be a modem, or a link to your telephone system.

Tapi Interface
The SMART TAPI interface enables Smart to provide phone number dialling via a modem or telephone system.
TAPI (Telephony Application Program Interface) is a set of standard protocols which allow a program like SMART to connect to any standard phone device, much as a household appliance can be plugged into any standard socket.
Configuring your phone or modem
To enable phone dialling at any SMART workstation a TAPI device and a TAPI device driver (a piece of software, usually provided by your telephone or modem supplier) must be installed.
- if you have installed and configured a modem for the workstation, and the modem is reasonably modern, you probably have TAPI support installed. If not, contact your modem supplier for a TAPI device driver. - if you wish to dial out from your PABX or other telephone system, you must install a TAPI driver on the workstation, and a physical connection (usually, a serial cable) from the workstation to the workstation's telephone.
Configuring Smart
Each SMART workstation must be configured separately. This enables different workstations to use different devices.
- Select \File \Workstation Setup from the main menu.
